There’s a wave of anticipation around Aamir Khan’s much-talked-about comeback film ‘Sitare Zameen Par’, a sports drama featuring him alongside autistic children in a heartfelt storyline. Marking his return to the big screen after three years, this film carries a lot of emotional and professional weight for Bollywood’s ‘Mr. Perfectionist’.

But Will Aamir Shine or Stumble Again?

Advance bookings for the film opened yesterday, offering the first glimpse into public sentiment. Sadly, the numbers are far from promising.

Disappointing Advance Booking Collection

According to data from Sakanlik.com, only around 10,110 tickets have been sold nationwide so far — a shockingly low number given Aamir Khan’s stature in the industry. Of these, 9,953 tickets are for the Hindi version and 157 for Tamil. The film has been allotted 3,559 shows, but the advance booking earnings stand at just ₹22.01 lakhs.

This slow start has raised questions, especially considering that Aamir’s last film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ failed to make a mark at the box office. It seems that a section of the audience is still hesitant about embracing the actor wholeheartedly once again.

Inspired by a Hollywood Classic

‘Sitare Zameen Par’, slated for release on June 20, is reportedly inspired by a popular Hollywood film, and aims to blend emotion with a powerful sports drama narrative. Aamir Khan will be seen sharing screen space with Genelia D’Souza, who plays a key role in the film. Interestingly, this marks their first collaboration, and Genelia is 23 years younger than the superstar.

Will the Buzz Pick Up?

Despite the weak start, trade analysts are hopeful that the momentum might pick up in the final two days. If word of mouth and last-minute bookings surge, the film still has a chance to turn the tide.

One thing is certain — ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ is more than just a film for Aamir Khan. It’s a litmus test. Whether it will restore his box office glory or deepen the downfall remains to be seen.
