The horror-comedy genre continues to charm Indian audiences, and this year’s spooky entertainer The Bhootni is no exception. Featuring Sanjay Dutt and Mouni Roy in lead roles, the film hit theatres on May 1, going head-to-head with Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated thriller Raid 2.

A Tough Start, But a Terrific Turnaround

Directed by Siddhant Kumar Sachdev, The Bhootni opened to a lukewarm response, with its Day 1 earnings limited to Rs 65 lakhs. But word of mouth and Sunday audiences helped turn things around. On Day 4, the film collected Rs 1.06 crore, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 3.19 crores.

Box Office Breakdown: ‘The Bhootni’

  • Day 1: Rs 65 lakhs
  • Day 2: Rs 62 lakhs
  • Day 3: Rs 86 lakhs
  • Day 4 (Sunday): Rs 1.06 crores
  • Total so far: Rs 3.19 crores

While made on a modest budget of Rs 25–30 crores and with minimal promotion, the film is slowly finding its audience.

Meanwhile, ‘Raid 2’ Dominates

On the other hand, Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 has taken the box office by storm, collecting a massive Rs 70 crores in just four days. Its strong brand recall and high anticipation gave it a significant edge over The Bhootni.

Story

The Bhootni tells the eerie tale of a haunted college, where a spirit linked to “The Virgin Tree” awakens every Valentine’s Day. When a student named Shantanu (Sunny Singh) unknowingly unleashes the ghost, chaos ensues. Sanjay Dutt plays a mystical baba, adding depth to the supernatural drama.

Despite a tough competition, The Bhootni has managed to stand its ground—proving once again that horror-comedies have a loyal fanbase in India.
