Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s much-awaited horror comedy “Thamma” finally hit theaters on October 21, perfectly timed with the Diwali festivities — and what a thunderous start it has made. Produced by Maddock Films, the studio behind superhits like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya, Thamma has lived up to the massive expectations of fans and critics alike.

A Strong Opening on Day 1

After months of anticipation, Thamma opened to packed theaters across India, with glowing reviews pouring in from both critics and the audience. The film grossed an impressive ₹25 crore on its first day in India, marking one of the biggest openings for a Hindi film this festive season. The Diwali holidays played a significant role in boosting collections, as families and youth alike flocked to theaters to enjoy this laughter-packed spooky entertainer.

Worldwide Earnings

According to box office tracker SacNilk, Thamma witnessed a gradual rise in footfall throughout the day. While the morning shows saw moderate occupancy between 3–4 PM, the evening shows picked up momentum, reaching 40% occupancy nationwide.

Internationally, the film collected nearly $250,000 (around ₹2 crore), despite Diwali not being a holiday in many countries. With that, Thamma’s worldwide total on Day 1 stands at ₹32 crore — an incredible achievement for a horror comedy.

Thamma Outperforms Other Hits

Thamma has not only impressed audiences but also surpassed the opening day collections of several big releases this year. It has beaten the worldwide opening figures of Saiyara (₹30 crore), and earlier Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) hits such as Stree (₹10 crore), Bhediya (₹12 crore), and Munjya (₹5 crore). However, it still trails behind Chhava (₹47 crore) and Stree 2 (₹80 crore) — with Stree 2 maintaining its position as the highest-opening Indian horror film of all time.

With such a phenomenal start, Thamma is poised to become another jewel in Maddock Films’ crown. The combination of Ayushmann Khurrana’s comic timing, Rashmika Mandanna’s charm, and a perfect blend of humor and horror has clearly struck the right chord with audiences. As positive word-of-mouth spreads and the festive weekend continues, Thamma is all set to witness even higher numbers in the coming days — making it one of the biggest box office surprises of 2025.
