The South Indian box office has turned into a battlefield with the release of two major films — HIT: The Third Case and Retro — both hitting theatres on 1st May 2025. While HIT 3, starring Nani, is a gripping Telugu action-thriller directed by Sailesh Kolanu, Retro, featuring Surya and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, is a Tamil romantic action drama. From the very first day, both films have locked horns to dominate ticket sales and audience attention.

Day 10 Collections Reveal the Front-Runner

The audience’s response has been strong for both films, but the box office numbers over 10 days have now revealed which one is pulling ahead.

HIT 3 Box Office Report

Nani’s HIT 3 started off with a bang, collecting Rs 21 crore net on its opening day in India and Rs 6.50 crore from overseas, taking its global Day 1 total to Rs 27.50 crore. With Rs 10.50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 10.40 crore on Day 3, the film reached Rs 41.90 crore net in just the first weekend.

Now, on the second Saturday (Day 10), the film added another Rs 2.50 crore net in India. This brings its total domestic net collection to a solid Rs 68.15 crore, keeping it well ahead in the race.

Retro Box Office Report

On the other hand, Surya’s Retro opened with a respectable Rs 19.25 crore on Day 1 and earned Rs 33 crore in its first three days. Though it impressed in the Tamil market, it slightly lagged behind HIT 3.

On Day 10, Retro collected Rs 1.25 crore, taking its overall total to Rs 55.25 crore — trailing HIT 3 by nearly Rs 13 crore.

The Verdict So Far

With two dynamic stars and different storytelling styles, both films have won hearts, but Nani’s HIT 3 is currently leading the charge at the box office. As the competition continues, all eyes are on the coming weekdays to see if Retro can catch up or if HIT 3 will solidify its dominance.
