A fresh buzz in Bollywood has revealed that the much-talked-about biopic on legendary actress Meena Kumari is very much alive—only with a major cast change. Earlier, Kriti Sanon was set to step into Meena Kumari’s shoes, but now, actress Kiara Advani has been confirmed to take on the role.
Why the Change?
The film, said to be produced by Bilal Amrohi and directed by designer-turned-filmmaker Manish Malhotra, was initially rumored to be shelved after no progress updates were shared. However, new reports confirm the project is still moving forward—with Kiara Advani now leading.
Kiara, who entered Bollywood in the same year as Kriti Sanon, has been chosen for her grace, emotional depth, and classic charm—qualities the makers believe are essential to portray the iconic Meena Kumari.
What Will the Film Depict?
Titled ‘Kamal Aur Meena,’ the film will explore the emotional and dramatic love story between Meena Kumari and her husband Kamal Amrohi, the visionary behind the 1972 classic Pakeezah. According to Mid Day and Times of India, Kiara is already preparing intensively for the role. She is set to work on her body language, emotional nuances, and even learn Urdu to authentically portray the tragedy queen.
When Is It Releasing?
The film is expected to release in the first half of next year. This timeline will allow Kiara sufficient time to prepare for the role after the birth of her baby. Meanwhile, the casting team is still searching for the perfect actor to play Kamal Amrohi.
