Sunny Deol’s much-awaited war drama Border 2 hit theatres on January 23 and made a powerful entry at the box office. The film also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, and its grand release has finally ended the long dominance of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which had been ruling the box office for nearly six weeks.

For the past one and a half months, Dhurandhar enjoyed a शानदार run, but the arrival of a big-scale patriotic film like Border 2 has given it tough competition. The craze around the sequel, backed by the legendary success of the first part Border, created massive buzz even before release.

Border 2 has been released on around 4,500 screens worldwide. Being the only major film to release during a long weekend, trade experts are expecting heavy footfall in theatres and a strong growth in collections over the coming days.

As per Sacnilk, Border 2 collected an impressive ₹30 crore on its first day. In comparison, Dhurandhar had opened with ₹28 crore. With this, Sunny Deol’s film has surpassed Ranveer Singh’s starrer in terms of opening-day numbers.

The film’s advance booking was also शानदार. Booking opened on Monday and nearly 4 lakh tickets were sold in advance. Even before its theatrical release, the war drama had already earned around ₹12.5 crore from advance sales.

Made on a massive budget of approximately ₹150–200 crore, Border 2 is expected to benefit hugely from the long weekend. With strong word of mouth, patriotic emotions, and big star power, the film is all set to register a solid jump in collections on its second day and over the weekend.
